出生時に口唇口蓋裂があり、修復手術を受けました。私の発音は聞き取って貰えないことがしばしば有るのですが、なぜか私自身には私の声が他の人々の発音と同じように聞こえるため、正しく発音するためのフィードバックが働きません。汎用の音声認識システムは、私のように標準的な発声ができない場合に対してはうまく対応しません。現在、コンピュータや制御の知識を元に、個々の発音の特徴に合わせた音声認識・合成技術の研究を進めています。

I was born with a cleft lip and palate at birth and had surgeries to repair it. My utterance sometimes fails to convey what I mean to say. This is due to the fact that there is something different about my pronunciation from others, but I myself cannot hear and identify it. The feedback system, which would help improve my pronunciation, does not work. Likewise, general-purpose speech recognition systems do not process my pronunciation properly. Making use of my unique skills of computer and control, I am currently developing a speech recognition and synthesis system tailored to the characteristics of individual pronunciation.

言葉を話せることの有り難さ・言葉が通じたときのうれしさ・言葉や文章で思いや意思を伝えること（意思の疎通）の難しさ・思いが通じないこと（誤解や齟齬）の歯がゆさ・考えを伝える的確な語彙が浮かばないときの残念さ
The thankfulness of being able to speak languages, the happiness when people understand what I say, the difficulty of conveying thoughts and intentions through words and sentences (the difficulty of communication), the frustration when people do not understand well what I say (misunderstandings and contradicting each other), and the disappointment of not being able to come up with the right vocabularies to express my thoughts.
