チンパンジーは手全体を使って「指さし」ならぬ「手指し」をします。これは、他者に要求などを伝えるための行為です。手指しは、注意の対象を他者と共有する、たとえば、ヒトが「あれを見て!」言いながら指差しするような形で使われることはありません。

Chimpanzees use their whole hand to “point”. This is an act of communicating requests to others. Hand pointing is not used to share a third reference with others, unlike human finger pointing, which is used when they say, for example, “Look at that!”
