私は二風谷という人口の多くがアイヌにルーツを持つ地域で、時々アイヌ語も飛び交うが、多くの会話が標準語と呼ばれるものと北海道弁という環境で育った。恵まれた事に父がアイヌ語を熱心に学ぶ家庭だったため、常に耳にする言葉の一つがアイヌ語でもあった。

I grew up in Nibutani, an area where much of the population has Ainu roots, and although Ainu is sometimes spoken, most conversations are in the so-called Standard Japanese and Hokkaido dialect. Fortunately, my father was an avid learner of the Ainu language, so I always heard Ainu as I grew up.

自分を表現する手段、人と繋がる手段、相手と認識を探り合う手段でもある言語は、差があるからこそ面白いはずです。その差や個性を当たり前にして、色鮮やかな社会を築いていけたら素敵なことだと思います!
Languages are used for expressing oneself, relating to others, and confirming how we share or not share ideas, and what makes languages most interesting is the differences that they have. It would be terrific if we can head toward a future society with vivid languages, where the differences and unique characteristics of each language are all accepted and taken for granted!
