染色体異常や、妊娠中の母親の風疹感染などが原因で、知的能力の発達に影響が及ぶことがあります。障害の程度はごく軽度から重度まで個人差が大きく、言語機能でも、語彙数が極めて少ない場合や、日常のコミュニケ―ションにはほぼ支障がない場合があります。
Such factors as chromosomal abnormality and Rubella infection during the mother’s pregnancy, may affect the development of intellectual ability. The degree of disability ranges greatly from very mild to severe depending on the person. This is true with language proficiency as well. Some may have no problems in everyday communication while the other may have extremely limited vocabulary.
