Human brain flexibly recognizes the meaning by processing various semantic features in parallel. For example, “dolphin” has characteristics such as living in the ocean and being a mammal. In an experiment where participants judged categories by looking at animal names, the word “dolphin” led to a brain area that indicates activities close to recognition of fish and a brain area that indicates activities close to recognition of terrestrial mammals.
