プログラミング言語は、ヒトがコンピュータに動作を指示するために用いる定型化した規則のことで、現在使われているだけで２５０種類以上あります。コンピュータが直接解釈できる２進数のコードを人間が扱いやすい形式に置き換えています。

A programming language is a set of stylised rules used by humans to instruct computers. There are at least 250 programming languages in use. Binary codes that computers can interpret directly are replaced by a format that is easy for humans to use.

Classification of programming languages in use. Microservices which arrange applications as a collection of loosely-coupled, fine grained services are becoming commonplace, but there are also large-scale monolithic applications with millions of lines of code per program.
