Sign language is based on visual recognition, and unlike the production of spoken language, the process of creating signals is visible. Information is conveyed through the upper body, facial expressions, hand shapes and movements. The articulators are large and take time to move, but it is possible to convey multiple pieces of information simultaneously, making the transmission of information as efficient as spoken language.
